21st August Roussillon

A later start so we had breakfast in the hotel. At 10 euros the most expensive of the holiday and not worth the money.Decided to visit the Ochre mines at Rustrel. 4 euros including parking. There we 3 signed trails . We opted for the middle lenght 3km trail which had the advantage of being mostly in shade. The temperature has climbed to around 38 degrees. You initialy climed upto and after about 20 minutes were rewarded with a view look down over the mine. You could see where over the centuarys where most of the hill had been removed to extract the Ochre.

After a coffee we moved onto to the pretty village of Roussillon which had been constucted out of the the Orhre bearing rock. 17 shades of Orchre had been found in and around the village and they had reomoved the Orchre right up to the edge of the village leaving a 35 metre precipice in places. A snack was had in a local cafe and after a pleasant few hours we moved on to small hotel just outside Avignon.
